Social and Inclusive Pedagogies
CERCLL continues to work on a series of resources that encourage inclusive language- and culture-teaching and learning.
Diversity Equity and Inclusion in Second Language Teaching (DEI-SLT) is a set of resources detailing how to create a curriculum that combines the teaching of languages and social justice topics, as well as examples of pedagogical materials that are ready to be used and modified for educators’ own classrooms. Get involved and share your own materials with other instructors as they relate to the intersection of language and social justice. Submit materials for any language!
Resources for Social Justice and Anti-Racism in the L2 Classroom is a compilation of resources for language and culture educators. It includes a wide range of materials to read, watch, and listen to, which will help teachers to think about how anti-racist pedagogy might inform their practices.
The Gender-Just Language Education Project supports language educators in engaging with trans knowledges and proactively planning for gender justice. It guides in teaching gender-inclusive and non-binary language (INL) in ways that engage with trans knowledges and are increasingly affirming to trans, nonbinary, and other non-cis people. Specifically, strategies for proactively planning to teach INL and for resistance thereto are presented via a number of open educational resources (OERs), which have been informed by recent research that outlines the numerous benefits of teaching INL. A webinar recording explains their use.
An extension of this project is surveying trans and non-binary experiences in language learning and developing curriculum for a Professional Learning Online Network Space (PLONS) for language educators focusing on trans-informed, gender-just language pedagogies. A website of Open Educational Resources for gender-just language teaching created by PLONS participants wil be avaliable, with professional development materials created for the PLONS.
