We are seeking a Student Outreach Assistant to join our team this Spring! This position is for an undergraduate student enrolled in a program in-person at the University of Arizona. It is for the Spring 2024 semester, but there may be options to continue into June and in the 2024-2025 academic year. We’d like to hire an energetic person who can work well with individuals from diverse backgrounds, and as part of a team. The ideal candidate is someone with a background in foreign language and/or international culture/global studies (this may include classes taken in these areas), and any experience working in event planning (especially in educational settings), or in elementary, middle or high schools is a plus.
The Student Outreach Assistant will work 12-15 hours per week on average, to support general CERCLL activities, focusing especially on events that are run on and near campus (e.g., the UArizona Language Fair, the Intercultural Competence Conference, professional development workshops), and on the promotion and dissemination of CERCLL-supported projects. Tasks for this position will include, but may not be limited to, preparing packets of materials for meetings and events, helping to run these events (e.g. stocking and staffing a display table, helping with check-in and registration, running games at community events, etc), maintaining contacts databases, making on-campus deliveries as needed, performing clerical duties such as filing and copying, updating communications materials (including both print and websites), gathering data for reports, etc.
- The person hired must be able to work well as part of a team and with people from diverse backgrounds. They must be able to communicate with individuals outside of their usual networks, aiding in our goal to strengthen communication between the UA campus and other communities, especially K-12 institutions.
- Proficiency in standard office software is required (Word, Excel, PPT), and experience with publications software is preferred (e.g., InDesign, lllustrator, Photoshop, audio/video editing software, WordPress).
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills are required, as well as the ability to take initiative (with guidance). The candidate should have excellent verbal and communication skills and good attention to detail.
