International Conference on the Development and Assessment of Intercultural Competence

In 2008, CERCLL initiated a biennial series of conferences intended to enhance teachers’ intercultural effectiveness in the classroom as they prepare students to become interculturally competent global citizens. Many of the presentations are recorded and are made available after the events on the CERCLL website and Youtube channel, and the Powerpoints, handouts and selected Proceedings (the latter only from earlier events in the series) serve as other permanent resources created through the project. You will find links to them on the conference website (see top right on the menu bar there).

The next ICC conference is the 10th iteration is a hybrid event set to take place February 27 to March 1, 2026. The theme is Intercultural Competence in a Rapidly Changing World: Supporting Sustainable Futures for All, with plenary presentations by:

  • Vanessa de Oliveira Andreotti (University of Victoria)
  • Irina Golubeva (University of Maryland Baltimore County)
  • Ricardo Römhild (University of Passau)

The Call for Proposals is here, with submissions due in Summer 2025.
